Cala Costa Viola

Every summer, my family and I make our pilgrimage to Calabria, where we have discovered our own personal heaven at this Lido, which is run with an almost fanatical level of care by Luigi. The cleanliness is always impeccable, and the management takes great pains to weed out any disrespectful customers, ensuring that only those who share Luigi's vision are allowed to bask in the crystal clear waters and explore the stunning nooks and crannies that make this place a photographer's paradise. Speaking of which, there are plenty of do-it-yourself shutterbugs who flock here to capture the perfect shot, whether it's for their own personal collection or just to prove to their friends that they've been to this idyllic spot. And let's not forget the rest of the staff, who are all equally charming and helpful - especially Mary, Luigi's lovely wife, and her sister Emanuela, who are always on hand to cater to the needs of thirsty beach-goers. The restaurant is another highlight, with its breathtaking views of the Strait of Messina and the romantic sunsets that can be enjoyed from every corner of the Lido. And if that weren't enough, there are also plenty of elegant and refined events that take place here throughout the season. Sure, the parking situation can be a bit tricky, thanks to the steep terrain, but that's just part of the rugged charm of this area. All in all, this place is our go-to retreat, and we wouldn't dream of spending our summers anywhere else.

I would give this beach four stars as it is truly amazing. The sea is crystal clear and there are rocks and unspoiled nature all around. The seabed is suitable for everyone, including children. The beach is well-maintained and the umbrellas are clean and spaced out just right, without being too far from the shoreline. However, I would recommend avoiding the restaurant as the service is very slow and the dishes are quite primitive. It's best to stick with pre-packaged products and enjoy the beauty of the beach.

Even though the beach was closed this season, we had a negative experience with a rude individual who asked us to leave. Despite this, the location itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, we will remember this lack of hospitality for a while. We decided to go swimming elsewhere due to the unpleasant encounter. It's a shame that private individuals are given concessions for such wonderful natural places.

The location is absolutely stunning, possibly the most captivating section of the violet shoreline. The ocean displays a vibrant shade of blue and the sight of the Strait of Messina is truly breathtaking (check out the pictures). Regrettably, I am unable to award full marks due to the subpar restaurant associated with the beach. The menu was lacking in options (some dishes were even unavailable) and the preparation time was exceptionally slow. I suggest grabbing a quick ice cream from the bar and relishing in the natural wonder from beneath the umbrella. Reserving in advance is highly recommended, especially during the busy months of July and August, as securing an umbrella and sunbed can be challenging. This location is truly enchanting!

We've been visiting this beach for years and always enjoy it. The water is clean and the beach is made of pebbles with a deep sea right away, making it perfect for snorkeling and swimming without too many people around. The setting is enchanting and the beach is well-maintained thanks to the owner, Luigi. They offer bar service, a restaurant, sun umbrellas, sun beds, showers, and rentals for kayaks and pedal boats. Parking can be a bit difficult, but there are plenty of spaces available for customers. It's best to come early in the morning and stay until sunset, which offers a view of Sicily. Overall, we highly recommend this beach.
