Every summer, my family and I make our pilgrimage to Calabria, where we have discovered our own personal heaven at this Lido, which is run with an almost fanatical level of care by Luigi. The cleanliness is always impeccable, and the management takes great pains to weed out any disrespectful customers, ensuring that only those who share Luigi's vision are allowed to bask in the crystal clear waters and explore the stunning nooks and crannies that make this place a photographer's paradise.
Speaking of which, there are plenty of do-it-yourself shutterbugs who flock here to capture the perfect shot, whether it's for their own personal collection or just to prove to their friends that they've been to this idyllic spot. And let's not forget the rest of the staff, who are all equally charming and helpful - especially Mary, Luigi's lovely wife, and her sister Emanuela, who are always on hand to cater to the needs of thirsty beach-goers.
The restaurant is another highlight, with its breathtaking views of the Strait of Messina and the romantic sunsets that can be enjoyed from every corner of the Lido. And if that weren't enough, there are also plenty of elegant and refined events that take place here throughout the season.
Sure, the parking situation can be a bit tricky, thanks to the steep terrain, but that's just part of the rugged charm of this area. All in all, this place is our go-to retreat, and we wouldn't dream of spending our summers anywhere else.
