Just got back from a five-night stay at the Avra Beach Hotel. This hotel is literally right on the beach. They have two outdoor bars, one offering cakes, ice cream, sandwiches, tea, coffee, and fizzy drinks for self-service, and the other serving alcohol. Both bars are open until midnight. There are Greek and Italian snack bars that serve Gyros, moussaka, pastas, pizzas, and all drinks including wine and beer until 5:30 PM. The pool bar has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. The food at the restaurant was very nice, and they have themed nights every night, such as Asian, Mexican, and Mediterranean cuisines. They also have the usual favorites available, so there's something for everyone. The bar staff were fantastic, as were the entertainment team and the evening shows were pretty good too. The reception staff were very helpful, and they offer a private bus to town for €6/person round trip, which is not much more expensive than the public bus. It's worth it because it's quicker, less crowded, and has air conditioning. Overall, it's a nice hotel. Now, onto the few negatives... It's not quite a 4-star hotel, but it's close. The bathrooms in some rooms are a bit disappointing, with an over shower bath, low ceiling height, and a shower fitting that's too close. I'm only 5ft7 and had trouble getting wet. There's no ventilation, the shower curtain doesn't fit, and it's damp and smelly. However, when we asked to be moved, the lady at reception was very helpful and offered us a room on a lower floor with a refurbished bathroom/wet room the next day, which was fine. The room itself is a decent size for two people, but it's a bit dated. These rooms are in the original part of the hotel, and there's a non-refundable fee of €19 to use the safe in the room. The sunbeds are a mix of newer ones and older ones that have seen better days. They're very dirty, with many broken parts, and they're ripped or torn, so they're not comfortable at all. There's not much in the area, but you can walk to town in about an hour, which is a nice stroll along the beachfront. All in all, it was a very good stay, just let down by a few small but important features.
