Langland Bay

The beach is absolutely delightful, with a plethora of activities for children to engage in, such as building sandcastles, searching for crabs, and wading in the shallow waters that gradually deepen. It is advisable to wear water shoes, as the beach can be rocky, particularly during high tide. We brought our paddle board and had an amazing time, and were even surprised by the appearance of a seal. The beach is equipped with lifeguards, restrooms, showers, and cafes in close proximity.

This beach is definitely one of my top picks in the area. The parking is conveniently located just a few minutes away, which is a huge plus. The only downside is that the buckets and spades are a bit overpriced, but other than that, I have no complaints.

Numerous beaches and seating areas are scattered throughout the area, providing ample space for relaxation. Adjacent to Alma Road, you'll find public conveniences including accessible restrooms for disabled individuals, as well as separate facilities for men and women. There's also a designated shower area available. Langland Bay Beach offers more than just its pristine sandy shores. You can enjoy a cafe with outdoor seating right on the beach, beach huts, and the recently refurbished Barter Tennis Courts, which are open to the public free of charge. However, please note that during the summer months, the courts require advance booking. Additionally, it would be wonderful to see the addition of a children's play area, utilizing the currently unused and dilapidated tennis court. Conveniently located near Langland Road, there is a spacious pay-and-display car park available off Brynfield Road, providing easy access to the beach. All in all, Langland Bay Beach is an exceptional destination suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you want to relax, engage in conversation, exercise, make new friends, read books, savor a cup of coffee, write novels, or indulge in artistic endeavors like drawing or painting, this beach offers the perfect setting. It's important to cherish and respect the water, beach, cliffs, and fellow visitors to ensure everyone's enjoyment.

In the past, my wife remembers enjoying tea on the beach served in elegant porcelain on trays. While those days are long gone, Langland still offers a variety of catering options to suit different tastes. The brasserie, cafe, and takeaway are open year-round and provide a welcome refuge from inclement weather. Unfortunately, the old Osborne Hotel, with its stunning dining room overlooking both Rotherslade and the main beach, has been replaced by a block of unremarkable flats. The same fate has befallen the former miners rehabilitation center, which boasted impressive Gothic features and was located behind the tennis courts. Thankfully, the charming green and white beach huts that have defined the bay since the early twentieth century remain untouched. They serve as a delightful contrast to the imposing villas of the wealthy that dominate the skyline. Langland is renowned among surfers worldwide as one of the UK's three famous breaks, alongside Fistral and Thurso. The golf course has meticulously maintained the headland that separates Langland from Caswell. Overall, Langland has a very suburban atmosphere.
