I really love South Fremantle...
South Beach has been a popular beach destination since the 1900s when wealthy people would take the train from Perth to visit the Hydrodome, the pier, and of course, the beach. Unfortunately, the Hydrodome and the pier are no longer there (the pier has been replaced with a groin that separates the dog beach from the South/Human beach), but the beach itself remains unchanged.
There is a beautiful grassy area between the railway line, carpark, and the beach, with plenty of trees providing shade.
On the weekends, there are yoga lessons on the grassy area in the early morning.
At the southern end of the beach, there is a cafe that serves decent coffee and some food.
On Saturday nights, there are also fantastic food markets at South Beach, but that's a topic for another review.
If you're looking for a relaxing day, it's definitely worth a visit. It's conveniently located on the cat bus route, or you can cycle down from Fremantle in just 10 minutes on the cycle track.
