To begin this review, I encountered several incidents during my stay at the Sunrise Beach Hotel. Upon arrival, my parents' room had an interesting smell and their toilet was not functioning. However, the receptionist Maria was very attentive and helped me resolve these issues.
On the first day, we headed straight to the pool to make the most of our holiday. The entertainment team initially seemed fun and exciting, but unfortunately, this was far from the truth. Despite the hotel having a mix of English and French-speaking guests, all the entertainment was conducted in French. It was disheartening to see them completely ignore us whenever we were anywhere in the hotel. Every morning, they would greet and engage in conversation with those wearing blue wristbands, but everyone else was completely disregarded.
At first, we didn't think much of it, but during dinner, one of the girls from the entertainment team approached me and asked if I wanted to participate. She gave me a drink and asked me to guess what was inside, but she went to every table except mine, as if I were contagious.
At the end of the night, my mother confronted one of the entertainers about their behavior. The entertainer explained that because we were wearing green wristbands instead of blue like the French guests, it was hotel policy not to speak or interact with us. I was shocked by this, as I have stayed at many resorts and hotels and never encountered such exclusion. The role of entertainers should be to include everyone, not discriminate based on wristband color or language.
Feeling extremely disrespected, I requested to speak with a manager. When I spoke to Maria, the assistant manager, and Tonghi, the head of the entertainment team, they appeared understanding. However, when I questioned Maria about the exclusion, she mentioned that the French guests had paid for the entertainment. I then asked her, Did I not pay the same amount for my all-inclusive package? Doesn't 'all-inclusive' include entertainment? She could only apologize and ask me not to write a negative review.
In my opinion, this hotel has a lot to learn and improve upon. Even the French guests were shocked when I shared my experiences with them. Furthermore, I spoke to many guests with green wristbands who felt the same way I did. It is disheartening that in 2023, one has to choose a hotel carefully to avoid having their holiday ruined simply because they do not speak French. This is not our fault, and it is disappointing to see such a lack of inclusivity.
