Kallady Beach

During my recent visit to Poonagary's Kallady Beach, I was truly mesmerized by its stunning beauty. The sand was incredibly soft and pure white, while the water was crystal clear and inviting. The picturesque scenery surrounding the beach was simply breathtaking. I spent several hours basking in the sun and taking refreshing dips in the sea. The locals were extremely hospitable and welcoming, adding to the charm of this picturesque beach. In summary, Kallady Beach is an absolute must-visit destination for anyone exploring Jaffna.

This stunning beach has pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters that will leave you in awe. However, reaching this hidden gem can be quite a task as the road leading to it poses a challenge. Despite the hour-long, 20 km motorbike ride, the breathtaking scenery and tranquil atmosphere make it all worth it.

This tranquil beach provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea, sun, birds, boats, and dunes. Unfortunately, there are no amenities such as food, lodging, or water for travelers who come from afar. However, a few Tamil and Sinhalese-speaking civilians reside in the area. To fully enjoy the ride or tour, it is recommended to use an off-road vehicle due to the sinking sand and damaged roads. There are several other attractions in the vicinity, including a fort built by the Portuguese to safeguard their possessions in Jaffna, which was later captured by the Dutch. Sand dunes offer an exhilarating off-roading experience, while birdwatchers can spot an array of sea birds, kites, hawks, and more. The beach is also an excellent spot for private camping, but it is essential to bring all necessary supplies. Other nearby attractions include Upplavan Lagoon, perfect for bird watching, Pallukudu marshy land, and an oil palm plantation. At the end of the road, visitors can enjoy a stunning view of Jaffna town, Jatty, and a church.

This beach is a great spot for fishing and having a good time. However, there are limited options for seating and restroom facilities. If you choose to take a dip in the water, it's best to avoid the front line as it may cause itching. Despite these minor drawbacks, it's a lovely place to visit. ❤️
