Hither Hills Beach

Hither Hills Campground. I have to say, it boasts one of the best bathrooms I've ever encountered at a campground. They also offer family bathrooms and super large showers 😜. The absence of pull string water control is a major plus. There's a generously sized playground for both kids and adults. All the sites are back-in, and there is no privacy between them as every site is completely open. Everyone is very friendly. They even have a general store that sells beer. Firewood is available at the main office for $7 a bundle, and it was worth it. On the back side of the main office building, there's an air fill-up station, which is convenient if you're returning from wheeling. From our campsite, we were literally just on the other side of the dune from the beach. There are no hookups, so you need to be self-contained. Water spigots are scattered around the campgrounds, so if you choose a site near one of these stations, you might experience some extra foot traffic. Something to consider when selecting a spot. We had a fantastic time, and being only 10 minutes away from town was a nice bonus. We will definitely be returning.

Point Gratiot Beach

We absolutely adore this beach. It features a blend of sand and stones, with occasional pieces of beach glass, and the sunsets are truly breathtaking. Sadly, a considerable amount of plastic waste tends to wash ashore, though this isn't the beach's fault. We usually bring a bag along to collect any litter we come across.

Roosevelt Beach

This solitary tree on the beach exudes a mystical aura, making it the ideal spot to witness a stunning sunset. It was by sheer chance that we stumbled upon this hidden gem on a cloudy day, which turned out to be the most awe-inspiring sunset we had ever witnessed. The beach is scattered with numerous oyster shells, adding to its natural charm. The tranquil waters are so serene, beckoning visitors to take a dip and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Glen Island Beach
10 Kai Rendal

This beach is exclusively available to Westchester residents, and a park pass is required for entry, costing $90 for a three-year period. With a pass, parking is just $5, and admission for adults is a mere $4. Additional discounts are available for seniors, children, and military personnel. Those without a pass will find the prices slightly higher. The water is pristine, and the beach itself is impeccably clean, with well-maintained bathrooms and a convenient concession stand.

This was my first visit to the beach during the pandemic, and I must say I was initially quite impressed. Although the water was a bit dirty, my boyfriend and I still managed to enjoy ourselves. However, the only issue we encountered was the lack of social distancing among the beachgoers. It is crucially important during these times, and unfortunately, we had to relocate twice due to people invading our personal space. It's perplexing that despite the numerous signs reminding everyone to maintain social distancing, many individuals still choose not to comply.

This beach might be one of the cleanest and most beautiful beaches I have ever visited. Coming from Brooklyn, I am accustomed to encountering various debris, especially glass, on the sand when I go to Coney Island. However, I could clearly see that this beach is exceptionally well-maintained. The only things to be cautious about while sunbathing or strolling on the sand are jellyfish and high tide. Fortunately, I stayed at a nearby motel, so I didn't have to deal with the expensive parking situation that I've heard about. Without a doubt, I will return to this beach the next time I am in the area.
