Pesalai Beach

To get to the beach, take the A14 Medawachchiya Thalaimannar Highway road from Colombo and turn right onto 1 Sea Street towards At. Anthony's church, but continue straight to Pesalai Beach. The area is located on the north-western coast and boasts a combination of lush vegetation and sandy shores. For those who enjoy camping, be sure to bring all necessary supplies for a private camping experience on the beach. You won't be disappointed. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the variety of avian species in the area, including kits, hawks, and numerous sea birds. Other nearby attractions include a square-shaped fort built by the Portuguese, windmills, and Adam's Bridge, a land connection between Sri Lanka and India consisting of six small islands accessible by civil boats, with only three of them open to visitors. Baobab trees, brought over from Africa by Arab merchants centuries ago, can be found throughout Mannar Island and add to its unique beauty. The lagoons and wetlands in the area, particularly the Vankalai bird sanctuary, are home to many migratory bird species. Fishing is a major part of the local economy, and off-roading enthusiasts will love the sand dunes. In short, the island offers an abundance of natural beauty and wildlife, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.

Talaimannar beach

The beach offers a stretch of fine sand that slopes gently into the water, making it suitable for all ages. While there are no deep areas in the water, the beach offers a serene atmosphere with a mix of sunny and shaded areas. The huts and garden are a short distance away from the beach, providing a peaceful retreat for those who want to relax. The area is less crowded and less polluted compared to other beaches, making it a great option for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Visitors may spot some fishing boats docked on one side of the beach, and while there are fewer sea shells, there are some spongy corals scattered around. However, unlike other nearby beaches, there are no sea animals to be seen. Additionally, visitors may not spot any birds during the end of July.
