Makena Landing Beach

Currently, there is ongoing road construction which adds a slight challenge to reaching the beach. It is convenient to have public restrooms available. Although the beach is small, there is a larger beach adjacent to it, and another beach located approximately 0.4 miles further down. Interestingly, there is an old church situated between the beaches, although it cannot be seen from the beach areas.

I have acquired my diving skills at this beach. I have visited this place approximately four times. Several commercial groups also frequent this beach, usually consisting of up to four individuals. The diving experience is pleasant, with a few caves to explore. Turtles and occasionally sharks can be spotted here. The water can be rough with some strong currents. The visibility is typically around 40 to 50 feet. There are outdoor showers provided for rinsing, and bathroom facilities are also available. The atmosphere here is quite enjoyable. By the way, the birds can be quite mischievous.

The beach is great, although it is a bit small and has limited parking. However, it has a turtle rest area right next to it, where you can see turtles all the time. There is no lifeguard on this beach, and it gets deep very quickly, so it is not recommended for small kids or inexperienced swimmers.

There are numerous paid tourist groups at this beach, and it's easy to understand why. You can spot an abundance of sea turtles both on the shore and while snorkeling or scuba diving. I have also had the opportunity to see an eel with fishing line tangled around its neck, an octopus, a white tip reef shark, and an array of fish. It's highly recommended to bring a GoPro with a waterproof case to capture the incredible underwater sights. This place truly lives up to its reputation and is worth a visit. However, it's important to note that parking is limited, so it's advisable to arrive early.

The scuba diving experience at this beach is exceptional, with opportunities to explore the reef and rock walls. I even had the thrilling encounter of spotting my first shark inside a cave. I would rate it 11 out of 10 and definitely plan to snorkel or dive here again. Although there was a slight swell, the abundance of fish, moray eels, and other marine life made it truly remarkable.
