Shipwreck Beach is one of my top picks among the beaches in Kauai. It is situated next to the Grand Hyatt Resort and boasts a decent parking lot and basic restroom facilities at the beach entrance. There is a walking trail that starts from the parking area and runs along the back of the beach towards the left when facing the water. Once you reach the end of the sandy portion of the beach, the trail takes you uphill to cliffs and a headland overlooking the ocean. The beach is dotted with an array of rocks, driftwood, trees, and bushes of varying textures and colors, and the birdsong adds to the ambiance of the wind and waves.
Climbing up the cliff above the ocean is a must-do activity as it feels like a volcanic wonderland! The view from the top is vast and breathtaking, and one can easily spend hours sitting there, listening to the waves. However, it's essential to note that someone mentioned the danger of jumping from the cliff into the water. I wholeheartedly agree that this is not a safe spot for swimmers.
But, if you want to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of Kauai and the Pacific Ocean, this is the perfect place to do so. You might even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a Hawaiian Monk Seal, which occasionally visits the beach and marvel at its beauty just as much as it marvels at you.
