Porthmeor Cove

Please note that some reviewers have mistakenly described Porthmeor as having a large sandy beach. This is actually Portheras, which is located half a mile away. Porthmeor Cove is a beautiful and peaceful spot, with stunning views, but it is covered in shingle and pebbles. It may be difficult to access, as I did not see a clear path down and it may not be worth the effort to try.

Getting there involves clambering down a steep cliff and then boulder hopping over rounded granite boulder which become more slippery as you go down. Sand is only exposed at low spring tide and even then there is a dangerous boulder protruding in the centre of the beach. Strong rip currents. Swimming only recommended on a rising spring low tide. There is a natural swimming pool near the headland on the SW edge of the cove, exposed at low tide. Places between the rocks at the back of the beach suitable for sunbathing unseen from the cliff tops.

This beach is an absolute treasure, tucked away in a somewhat elusive location. But once you discover it, you'll be amazed. The sand is simply divine and rivals even the most exotic destinations like the Maldives. The water is crystal clear and pristine. Although it can be a bit choppy on cooler days, it's to be expected. The beauty of this beach cannot be captured in photographs alone. I highly recommend a visit if you happen to be in the vicinity.

To reach the beach, one must navigate a steep grassy slope and traverse over large rocks, which may prove challenging for those with strollers or other mobility aids. However, the effort is well worth it, especially if you want to take a leisurely stroll before taking a refreshing dip in the water.
