We were staying in a holiday home nearby, right on the beach. We were thrilled to discover this Beach Bar / Restaurant just a short walk away.
On our very first night, we decided to give it a try. And to cut to the chase, we never returned!
There was a birthday party happening, so we had to wait an hour until it opened to the public. It was understandable, so we ordered two glasses of white wine and settled into their beach chairs by the ocean.
Later on, we moved to a table and ordered a bottle of red wine, a Swordfish salad/starter, Ravioli filled with Ricotta with shrimp sauce, and Pasta with Mussels/Vongole. The service was decent, neither exceptional nor terrible.
The red wine was truly enjoyable, but everything else was a major disappointment. The Swordfish had an overpowering taste. During our five-week stay in Italy, we had plenty of amazing Italian food, delicious fish and seafood, and fantastic swordfish dishes. Unfortunately, this one did not meet our expectations.
The main courses were even more disappointing. The mussels and vongole lacked freshness and flavor. The Ravioli were another disappointment, resembling something you would find pre-made in a supermarket, with a few shrimp thrown into the sauce. The shrimp tasted and looked like they came straight out of a can (you know, the kind you find in stores).
We understand that this is a beach bar, but even on this trip (for example, in Nicotera), we ate at Italian beach bars that surpassed this place. Some even had exceptional food. Even some family-owned trattorias were far superior. So, despite it being a place to enjoy drinks and the beach with its beautiful views, the food could use significant improvement. The total bill came to 70 Euros, which is not exactly affordable either.
If you're solely interested in drinks and soaking up the beach atmosphere, then this place might be suitable for you. However, considering the breathtaking views and sunsets we experienced from our holiday home, I have to base my judgment on the food. They also offer beach chair and umbrella rentals during the day, but I'm unsure of the prices as we brought our own equipment.
It's a shame, as we genuinely wanted to like this place. However, we ended up cooking at home and grilling some fantastic fresh seafood from the local fishmonger.
