This beach is dog-friendly, but be cautious. Like many places in Western Australia, the nearby National Park is heavily baited with the harmful and inhumane 1080 poison, posing a risk to your dog if they pick up a relocated bait. Additionally, there is a sign at Cheynes Beach warning about the dangers of poisonous sea hares to your dog.
The beach is particularly weedy, and we spotted tiger snakes among the weeds during our visit over several days. If you decide to visit, please be aware of these dangers to your dog and watch your own step due to the presence of snakes. I didn't find it a relaxing place to walk my dogs with so many hazards to look out for (baits, sea hares, and snakes).
Moreover, the windy conditions in October made the visit unpleasant, so perhaps I didn't choose the best time to go.
Despite my concerns about my dogs' safety and the relentless wind, I can see that this beach could be a great spot to view whales during their migration.
