I have stayed at this beach twice this year, both times for just one night. I have primarily used the Sheraton as a hotel for passing through, staying overnight either on my way into or out of Fiji after finishing work in Suva. However, even though I haven't been able to fully enjoy everything it has to offer, I must say that it is definitely a place I will return to, despite a few problems (which I will discuss below):
- Firstly, the service is exceptional without any exceptions. During my first stay in April this year, I felt that the service was lacking a bit. But I can confidently say that every staff member I encountered, from the lady serving welcome drinks to the person at the checkout, made me feel welcomed, warmly received, and at home. Truly outstanding five-star service.
- The location is fantastic - just a 30-minute drive from the airport, yet still in a peaceful area.
- The rooms are excellent - on both stays, I had rooms with ocean views, although the view from the upper floor is significantly better. The air conditioning works perfectly, and the bathrooms are spacious and modern, with hot water available most of the time (except for one instance when there was a power outage at dawn - either the water heaters are solar-powered or they take a little time to start up after an outage). The room doors are a bit flimsy and not very soundproof - my noisy neighbors kept waking me up with their late-night activities.
- The breakfast buffet is splendid - it is spread out and offers a wide range of options. However, it could be argued that it is a bit too spread out - some signage or something similar would be helpful, as I spent about five minutes aimlessly searching for the pastry section.
The only problem I encountered was that the hotel seems to be dealing with a cockroach infestation. There were a couple of small ones in my bathroom overnight, but I wasn't too concerned about them. However, what deducted one star from my review was the sight of a massive cockroach crawling all over the counter at the 28g coffee shop. I had stopped there to grab an early lunch (since no restaurant serves lunch before 11:30 or 12), and seeing that cockroach made me question the food safety and hygiene practices at the coffee shop. This shouldn't be a difficult issue to resolve for a hotel of this caliber, so I hope the management will take care of it soon.
