During our visit to the southern tip of the beach, closer to the town center of Cahuita, we observed a large number of individuals, including both tourists and locals, enjoying a swim. Intrigued, we decided to join them in the water. However, our aquatic adventure was short-lived as a knowledgeable surfing instructor promptly advised us to exit the water due to the presence of powerful rip currents further out at sea. Surprisingly, there were no warnings regarding these currents upon entering the beach or along its shores, which we found to be quite irresponsible. While lifeguards were present and patrolling the beach, their limited numbers made it challenging for them to effectively monitor the entire stretch of coastline, especially when they were walking in pairs. In our view, a section of the beach should be designated as off-limits for swimming, similar to the approach taken in Tortuguero, in order to prevent any potential accidents. Despite these safety concerns, we must acknowledge that the beach itself was aesthetically pleasing, with the added bonus of observing surfers in action. This is why we have awarded it a rating of 2 stars.
