Head of the Meadow

During our week-long stay at North of Highland in August, we were enamored with the charm of Head of the Meadow beach (Truro Town Beach side). Despite the presence of purple flags indicating the potential danger of marine life, we were still able to enjoy a refreshing swim closer to the shore. The waves were lively, breaking either on or near the shore and creating a bit of a drop off during high tide. However, during low tide, the beach was filled with over 100 children and adults who were having a great time boogie boarding. Although the shark sensor frequently detected sharks and we spotted seals daily, we felt secure enough to continue swimming. With stunning views and energetic waves, it only took a short 5-minute walk from the campground to reach the beach, which was free to access. This is certainly an unbeatable option for a budget-friendly vacation!

I am absolutely enamored with this beach. It is a perfect spot for a refreshing swim and easily ranks among my top favorites. What sets this beach apart is the sight of purple flags fluttering in the breeze - a rare sight indeed! I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of seals also enjoying this wonderful spot.

One of the most beloved beaches on Cape Cod is undoubtedly this one. The waves here are perfect - not too big like at Nauset, but still enough to provide some exciting wave action compared to the calmer bay side. The dunes and rolling hills provide a stunning backdrop for your day at the beach. When the tide goes out, little pools form, which is always a hit with kids. It's a safe area for them to play in, as you don't have to worry about the main ocean water. If you have binoculars, be sure to bring them along - you might just spot some whales off in the distance. It's amazing what you can see when you take a closer look. Keep an eye out for seals too, as they often mean that great whites are nearby. You never know when you might get a chance to snap a quick photo, so keep your phone or camera handy. The parking lot is convenient and there are full bathrooms and washing stations available, as well as changing rooms. The walk to the beach is easy, with just a slight incline at first and then a gentle decline all the way down. This is truly a wonderful spot that you won't want to miss.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this beach. Although the walk from the parking lot was quite long, it was definitely worth it. Conveniently located in the parking area were clean and well-maintained bathrooms, dressing rooms, and a rinse off station. During my visit, I was lucky enough to witness a variety of marine life, including lion seals and regular seals. However, it is important to remain cautious of the potential presence of sharks and seals. The lifeguard on duty left at 5pm, which seemed to be the cue for many visitors to depart. Despite this, I chose to spend the entire day here and had no regrets. Additionally, the cost of admission was a reasonable $25 or free with a national park pass.

Upon reading about this particular beach, one might assume that it is not a popular spot for swimming. However, during our visit, we found the Head of the Meadow Beach to be bustling with sunbathers and swimmers of all ages, taking advantage of the waves for surfing. The beach boasts a variety of reasons to visit, including the presence of lifeguards on duty from 10 am to 5 pm every day during the summer season. Additionally, there are five portable toilets available and ample parking, though there is a fee for parking unless you have purchased a season pass. Despite the crowds, this beach may just be the most stunning ocean beach in all of Truro.
